Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp FAQ

Expand All

Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp is a special trek where you visit Everest Base Camp, the starting point for climbers trying to summit Mount Everest, and also climb Island Peak, a smaller peak in the Himalayas. It’s a challenging and exciting adventure that combines trekking through beautiful villages and mountains with the thrill of climbing a peak.

The trek is challenging but not impossible. It requires physical fitness, as you’ll be trekking at high altitudes where the air is thinner. You’ll be walking on uneven trails, and some parts involve climbing. If you have good stamina, enjoy walking, and are prepared for altitude, you’ll do great!

You don’t need to have prior climbing experience, but it helps if you are physically fit. The Island Peak climb involves basic mountaineering skills like using crampons, ropes, and ice axes. Don’t worry! You will get training and support from your climbing guides before you make the summit.

The entire trek will take about 19 days. This includes time for trekking to Everest Base Camp, acclimatizing to the high altitude, and climbing Island Peak. There are also rest days to help your body adjust to the thinner air as you get higher.

You’ll need basic trekking gear like comfortable boots, warm clothing, and a good backpack. For the climb, you’ll also need special equipment like crampons, harnesses, and an ice axe. Don’t worry, many of these can be rented in Kathmandu or in the villages along the way. You will be given a full packing list before you start.

The highest point of the trek is Island Peak, which is 6,189 meters (20,305 feet) above sea level. Everest Base Camp is also high, at 5,364 meters (17,598 feet). Because of the high altitude, it’s important to take things slowly to prevent altitude sickness.

Altitude sickness can happen when you go too high too quickly. To prevent it, you should drink plenty of water, walk slowly, and rest when needed. There are specific acclimatization days built into the itinerary to help your body adjust. If you feel unwell, your guide will take care of you and make sure you get proper rest.

Along the trek, you’ll enjoy tasty meals like dal bhat (lentils and rice), noodles, and soups. These foods are healthy and give you the energy you need. There will also be options for Western food like pizza, pasta, and sandwiches in some places. Vegetarian meals are available, too, and your guides will help with any specific dietary needs.

In larger villages like Namche Bazaar, you’ll find electricity and internet cafes where you can check your email or post photos. However, the internet might be slow. In smaller villages, there may be limited electricity, but your guide will help you find ways to stay connected if needed.

The trek is safe, and your guides are well-trained to handle emergencies. They carry first aid kits, and you will be accompanied by experienced climbing guides throughout the trek. In case of serious illness or injury, there are helicopters that can evacuate you to a hospital. It’s also a good idea to get travel insurance before the trek.

Excellent Service

We dealt with Ganesh before the trip and are very happy with the service provided. Everything was as promised.

Our guide, Hari, did an excellent job in planning our whole journey and improvising wherever he saw fit. He also was very in tuned with our fitness level and we didn’t feel that we were pushed beyond our capabilities.

Our porter, Gopi, was also very helpful especially in keeping our spirits up during the whole journey.

All in all I would highly recommend Adventure White Himalaya Treks Pvt Ltd to anyone who is going trekking in Nepal.
